Social connection is a fundamental need that contributes significantly to our overall health and happiness. For older adults, maintaining strong social ties can have a profound impact on their quality of life. Strong social ties can improve mental health and emotional wellbeing, increase their sense of belonging and even have positive effects on their physical health.

Whether it’s sharing a laugh with a neighbour, catching up with family or participating in group activities, staying connected plays a vital role in living a happier and healthier life.

At Bankstown City Aged Care, we recognise the importance of staying socially connected, both in our residential aged care facilities and through our In-Home Support Services and our Wellness Centre. We create opportunities for our residents and clients to engage and form meaningful relationships through:

Engaging Activities

Our aged care facilities, Gillawarna and Yallambee, host a wide range of group activities such as arts and crafts, games and fitness classes. These events provide residents with the chance to meet new people, share experiences and enjoy their time together.

Community Spaces

We provide welcoming communal areas where residents can gather for a chat, share meals or participate in planned activities. These spaces are designed to encourage daily interaction and ensure no one feels isolated.

Support for In-Home Clients

For those who receive in-home support, our team works hard to ensure social connection remains a priority. Our caregivers build strong, personal relationships with clients, helping clients to stay socially active even from the comfort of their own home. In addition, our Wellness Centre also provides older people with a chance to stay socially connected while participating in group exercise, improving both clients’ physical and mental wellbeing.

Staying socially connected can significantly enhance quality of life as we age, and at Bankstown City Aged Care, we’re dedicated to fostering those connections for all our residents and clients.
