At Bankstown City Aged Care (BCAC), our residents are at the heart of everything we do. A vital part of this care comes from our Recreational Activities Officers (RAOs), who dedicate themselves to enhancing the lives of our residents every day. From planning meaningful activities to providing emotional support, our RAOs bring compassion, energy and creativity to their roles. Meet our wonderful RAOs at our Gillawarna and Yallambee Villages and learn about the incredible work they do.
Our Gillawarna RAOs are: Sirikoon, Vera and Marta
Our Yallambee RAOs are: Jodie, Mallika, Rio and Rosalinda
Why Our RAOs Love Their Job
Sirikoon shares, “I am proud to give emotional support and be a good listener during my room visits, it makes residents feel less lonely, especially when their families can’t visit often.”
Mallika shares, “There’s never a dull day in this position. Even after working for more than a decade, my passion for this job is as strong as ever and am provided opportunity for personal growth.”
What A Day Looks Like as a RAO
Marta shares, “I don’t believe that I come to perform a job every day, I come to do what I love.”
Rio shares, “Knowing that my efforts enrich residents’ days with fun, stimulation and comfort fuels my commitment to building a community where every resident feels valued and included.”
Rosalinda shares, “I take great joy in knowing my residents’ families and friends as it helps me to understand their needs. I try and offer a variety of activities to suit their needs like exercise, physical games, floor games, board games, colouring in, trivia and table games.”
What Makes Being a RAO So Rewarding
Vera shares, “When the residents are happy, I know I’ve done my job.”
Jode shares, “I enjoy listening to residents’ life stories and building trusting bonds with them and their families, being able to offer a helping hand, to challenge them cognitively and physically in a positive and healthy manner.”
