Core strength is one of the most important foundations for overall health and wellbeing. As we age, the risk of poor balance and muscle instability increases, which can lead to back pain, reduced mobility, and even falls. By keeping our core strong, we can support posture, stability, and confidence in everyday activitiesThus, it is imperative that we engage our cores while we do all our exercises. To engage our core, we need to breathe through our diaphragm as we do our exercise. This means as we breathe in our belly will be poking out, and when we breath out our belly will deflate. Using this breathing technique, we indirectly train our core muscles to activate during exercise.
Furthermore, we can train our core directly by doing a few exercises each day such as seated marching, body twist and forward reach. This will help strengthen your core directly rather than passively training it through breathing. By combining mindful breathing with daily core exercises, you can improve balance, reduce the risk of falls, and enjoy greater independence and wellbeing.
